As if we needed more reason to get the US out of the UN, and the UN out of the US, a UN Special Rapporteur outrageously cites possible violation of international law if Obamacare is changed.

Liar, Liar, Birds on Fire

Did you know there are only 133 individuals left of the Mexican Grey Wolf species? That’s because Donald Trump is building a wall on our southern border. Never mind that a total population of 133 individuals probably doesn’t provide enough genetic diversity to sustain the species. Or that the Mexican grey wolf has been on the verge of extinction for decades. If it goes extinct, it will be the fault, not of the Mexicans and Southwestern Americans who have been persecuting the species since before it had a name, but of President Trump and his promised wall.

So distraught is the Environmental Industry over the President’s wall that Arizona member of Congress Raul Grijalva, and local environmental group the Center for Biological Diversity have filed suit demanding that the Trump Administration complete an Environmental Impact Study before the wall is built.

Environment huckster Jeff Corwin of Animal Planet network assured MSNBC’s Craig Melvin that the wall will be a disaster for wolves, jaguars, tortoises, bats and birds.

Better be careful about those 100 migratory bird species. Between the death by fire of the environmental disaster called mirror arrays, and the slice-and-dice obstacle courses which are wind turbines, the migratory bird population can’t take much more.

Nothing says “environmentally responsible” like super-heating the air and killing birds in a most horrible way. Maybe the wall will actually help the migratory bird population: they can stay south of the wall to escape the environmentalists.

Mirror array “solar farms” like the “Crescent Dunes solar energy project” outside of Tonopah, Nevada (pictured today on Bing‘s homepage)  scorch birds and set them on fire in mid-flight. The Wall Street Journal reported that this danger was known before the project was built.

According to Nature World News

It’s no secret that solar power is hot right now, with innovators and big name companies alike putting a great deal of time, money, and effort into improving these amazing sources of renewable energy. Still, the last thing you’d likely expect is for a new experimental array to literally light nearly 130 birds in mid-flight on fire.

And yet, that’s exactly what happened near Tonopah, Nevada last month during tests of the 110-megawatt Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project.”

“According to Rudy Evenson, Deputy Chief of Communications for Nevada Bureau of Land Management (NBLM) in Reno, as reported by Re Wire, a third of the newly constructed plant was put into action on the morning of Jan. 14, redirecting concentrated solar energy to a point 1,200 feet above the ground.”

“Unfortunately, about two hours into the test, engineers and biologists on site started noticing “streamers” – trails of smoke and steam caused by birds flying directly into the field of solar radiation. What moisture was on them instantly vaporized, and some instantly burst into flames – at least, until they began to frantically flap away. An estimated 130 birds were injured or killed during the test.”

“Officials behind the project have refuted that claim, saying that most of the streamers are floating trash or wayward insects, but federal wildlife officials have begun calling these ‘eco-friendly’ power towers “mega traps” for wildlife.

The same Center for Biological Diversity  that is suing the Trump administration has estimated that this single mirror array project incinerates 28,000 birds annually.

Add this death toll to the estimated 573,000 birds killed by wind turbines in 2012 and even an environmentalist might become concerned.

Spring Cleaning

The Gateway Pundit is reporting that House Republicans are planning to ask the Attorney General to file criminal charges against Lois Lerner.

Lerner was the head of the Exempt Organizations Unit of the IRS, and as such pursued a policy of delaying and denying tax-exempt status to politically conservative groups. The illegal targeting included demanding the identities of donors, and years-long delays that kept conservative groups from effectively participating in the 2012 presidential campaign. The illegal denials and delays likely influenced the  election, and helped to ensure the re-election of Barack Obama.

Illinois Rep. Peter Roskam (R) told Stewart Varney on Varney & Co. (Fox Business network) that

Lois Lerner did two things wrong. Number one, she denied people due process and equal protection of the law based on their political philosophy. We’re convinced that there is overwhelming evidence to suggest that that’s true. And that’s a felony. Secondly, we suspect that she lied to the Inspector General of the Treasury Department.

Yesterday,  Lerner’s attorney requested that her upcoming deposition in a civil suit be “permanently sealed” due to death threats and harassment that she has received. We agree that it would be tragic should anything happen to Lerner before she is able to go to prison where she belongs. But shielding information from public scrutiny would likely be used by Lerner to impede the criminal investigation.

The class action lawsuit against Lerner and Holly Paz, also complicit in the scandal, includes hundreds of the groups that were targeted. These conservative and Tea Party groups were seeking tax-exempt status from the IRS but instead experienced long delays for their applications to be approved or had them denied altogether.

Lerner’s victims include conservative political groups, pro-life groups, pro-Israel organizations, vote integrity organizations, and government agency watchdog groups.

Ann Coulter: Lassie, Come Home

War is like crack for presidents. It confers instant gravitas, catapulting them to respectability, bypassing all station stops. They get to make macho pronouncements on a topic where every utterance is seen as august. On the other hand, Trump’s Syrian misadventure is immoral, violates every promise he ran on and could sink his presidency. Left to his own devices, uncontaminated by Washington group-think, Trump gets it right.

Foaming at the Mouth

Poor Sean Spicer.

The hapless White House Press Secretary this morning told the press corps that “even Adolf Hitler” did not use chemical weapons on his own people.

Asked for clarification, Spicer dug the hole deeper:

“He was not using the gas on his own people in the same way that Assad is doing.”

and later in the day,

“In no way was I trying to lessen the horrendous nature of the Holocaust, however, I was trying to draw a contrast of the tactic of using airplanes to drop chemical weapons on innocent people,”

. . . which was like throwing a bucket of chum into shark-infested waters.

The voices of professional outrage instantly called for Spicer to be fired.

First up was Steven Goldstein, shameless opportunist and executive director of the gay rights advocacy group,  the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect:

“Spicer’s statement is the most evil slur upon a group of people we have ever heard from a White House press secretary”

. . . he spluttered, leaving us all wondering what the hell he was talking about.  ( “Evil? a slur? on whom? What in hell? Maybe English isn’t his first language.”)

Next at bat was former singer Barbra Streisand, who had this faux indignant tweet to impart:

Sean Spicer should be fired for saying Hitler did not use chemical weapons on “his own people.” You mean 6 million Jews don’t count?,”

Um . . . count as what? Does Streisand really think of the victims of the Holocaust as being “his (Hitler’s) own people” ?

And Princess Chelsea The Irrelevant had this condescending remark to make:

“I hope @PressSec takes time to visit @HolocaustMuseum. It’s a few blocks away.”

. . . proving that she’s her mother’s daughter, sure enough.

Such is the nature of Trump Derangement Syndrome. For the next eight years, the level of outrage a remark elicits will indicate nothing about the remark, and everything about the political affiliations of the remarker.

Obama’s Legacy: Slave Markets in Libya

Black Africans are being bought and sold in slave markets in Libya.

Reports  form the UN-affiliated International Organization for Migration say migrants from West Africa are being held in private prisons in Libya if they are unable to pay the smugglers who arrange their passage to Europe.

West African migrants interviewed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have recounted being bought and sold in garages and car parks in the southern city of Sabha, one of Libya’s main migrant smuggling hubs.

Migrants are traded for between $200 and $500 and are held on average for two or three months, Othman Belbeisi, head of the IOM’s Libya mission, told journalists in Geneva.

“Migrants are being sold in the market as a commodity,” he said. “Selling human beings is becoming a trend among smugglers as the smuggling networks in Libya are becoming stronger and stronger.”

Migrants from Gambia, Senegal and Nigeria are set upon by armed groups and captured as they travel to Libya’s Mediterranean coast. They are held for ransom and forced to work without pay, or sold as slaves. The new owner may demand a new ransom or leave the captives to starve.

“What we know is that migrants who fall into the hands of smugglers face systematic malnutrition, sexual abuse and even murder,” Mohammed Abdiker, IOM’s Director of Operations and Emergencies, said in a statement. “We are hearing about mass graves in the desert.”

Another Alleged Syrian Gas Attack

The Democrats’ Favorite Republican Gets His Way At Last . . .

On April 4, it has been alleged, Syrian civilians including children were subjected to another gas attack by the Assad regime.

The President has stated that he has changed his mind about intervention against the Assad regime, and that after the deaths of over eighty people in the latest attack, “something should happen.”

I would like to suggest that we keep our foot on the brake, and think it over.  And then think it over again.

For those experiencing deja vu, yes, this happened before. It was in August of 2013, and John Kerry was Secretary of State. We were assured that the Assad regime had attacked all the little children and their moms, that they were killed with poison gas, and that the culprit was Bashir al-Assad, the Syrian President. Assad has been the favorite target of hatred by the al-Nusra Front, the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist factions. Oh, and the Obama administration.

The Obama administration asserted Sunday for the first time that the Syrian government used the nerve gas sarin to kill more than 1,400 people in the world’s gravest chemical weapons attack in 25 years as the White House intensified pressure on a skeptical Congress to authorize punitive military strikes against Damascus.

Secretary of State John F. Kerry said new laboratory tests showed traces of sarin, an extremely toxic nerve agent, in blood and hair samples collected from emergency workers who responded Aug. 21 to the scene of an alleged chemical weapons attack in the Damascus suburbs.

In an interview blitz on five Sunday television news shows, Kerry said the fresh forensic evidence strengthened an already compelling case for taking military action against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and he predicted that Congress would vote to give President Obama that authority.

“I can’t contemplate that the Congress would turn its back on all of that responsibility and the fact that we would have, in fact, granted impunity to a ruthless dictator to continue to gas his people,” Kerry said on “Fox News Sunday.” “Those are the stakes.”

The death toll is markedly lower this time, with

. . . Well, I just heard that the US has launched airstrikes on Syria, with 43 Tomahawk missiles targeting Syrian airbases. The Russians are apparently involved.

I think it’s a bad mistake. And I think we’ll end up welcoming a lot more Syrian “refugees” as a result.

Assad is a horrible leader. Only the Islamists that will replace him are worse.
