A Ramadan to Remember

Ah,  the holy-month-of-Ramadan™.

The son of Afghan immigrants, Omar Mateen murdered 5o and injured an additional 53 in  a terrorist attack  at an Orlando gay club early Sunday morning.

Immediately before starting his rampage, Mateen called 911 and pledged his allegiance to the self-proclaimed Islamic State. (A similar pledge was made online by the San Bernardino terrorists .)   . . .

ISIS recently called on Muslims across the world to attack targets in the West during the holy month of Ramadan,  which began last week.
Muslims around the world engage in a quasi-fast from dawn to dusk during Ramadan. Those who can simply sleep until nightfall, and spend the evening  feasting and partying in honor of what Muslims believe is the first revelation from their god to Mohammed.

The terrorist group believes it to be a particularly opportune time for attacks.“Ramadan, the month of conquest and jihad. Get prepared, be ready .  .  .   to make it a month of calamity everywhere for the non-believers . . . especially for the fighters and supporters of the caliphate in Europe and America,”   [Isis  spokesperson  Abu Mohammed al-] Adnani said.

In a glib demonstration of the art of taqiyah –the Islamic doctrine of lying for the sake of Allah     — the murderer’s father assured us all  that this latest Islamic terrorist attack had nothing to do with Islam.

Mateen’s father Mir Seddique told NBC News that the sight of two men kissing angered his son.

–which may be true. But The United West   is reporting that an Orlando-area mosque in April hosted an Islamic scholar who claimed that “killing  [gays] is a compassionate thing to do.”

“We are saying we are apologizing for the whole incident,” the father added.

–the word he meant  is  “massacre”, or maybe “atrocity” –not “incident.”  But of course English isn’t his first language.

“We weren’t aware of any action he is taking. We are in shock like the whole country.”

The attack, he said, “has nothing to do with religion.”

–of course not, and least of all Islam.

But the father may not be the most credible of sources. He’s a supporter of the Afghan Taliban, according to the Washington Post.

So why would anyone want a pause in Muslim immigration?

  1. The FBI knew about this guy, the people that knew say he was “unhinged” and his father is pro-taliban. Apparently the FBI is too busy entrapping harmless half-wits while the real thing, in plain sight gets a free pass. US government up to its usual standards.

    • Yes. They were quick to acknowledge that the attack might be linked to terrorism, which they usually delay saying until there is no doubt, and later said that the gunman was known to them. It seems that, for all the fear of civil rights violations due to the Patriotic Act, we still run up against having to wait for a ‘person of interest’ to overtly violate the law before any action can be taken.
